Blizzard has today announced Hearthstone’s next expansion. Rise of Shadows will release on Tuesday 9th April and will feature 135 new cards, as well as some interesting new mechanics.
Check out the announcement trailer below
Arch-Thief Rafaam is the latest villain who, after growing tired of constantly-foiled plots, has assembled his own League of E.V.I.L.; with it he plans to target the floating city of Dalaran, with a main objective to be revealed at a later date.
The League of E.V.I.L. will feature characters from previous expansions, including King Togwaggle, Madam Lazul, Dr. Boom, and Hagatha the Witch. Each of these returning villains will have their own angle and their own Scheme cards to boot. Schemes cards are “powerful spells that become even more powerful the longer they stay in your hand. It takes time to cook up a good scheme, but the payoff is totally worth it!”
Evil cards will also be introduced. These cards will generate the all new Lackeys: “Lackeys are 1/1 minions that, while lacking in terms of raw stats, pack a surprisingly powerful punch when they hit the board.”
5 Lackey cards have been revealed so far, each one featuring a very interesting ‘Battlecry’ effect. The Witchy Lackey looks particularly fun, with a Battlecry that transforms a random friendly minion into one that costs 1 more mana. What expansion would be complete without some RnG to either have you rage quiting or emote spamming your opponent?
Twinspell will be the new card mechanic, these “are spells that, once cast, create a copy of themselves in your hand to be used whenever you like. Turn the tides of battle, then turn it again!”
A couple of other cards were also reveled. Spellward Jeweler and legendary card Chef Nomi both feature unique and powerful Battlecry effects, while Mage legendary Kalecgos will make your first spell each turn cost zero.
As usual with new Hearthstone expansions, players can now pre-purchase different bundles for Rise of Shadows. The standard bundle will include 50 Rise of Shadows card packs, an exclusive card back, and a random Rise of Shadows Legendary card, while the mega bundle includes 80 Rise of Shadows card packs, the Madame Lazul Priest Hero, an exclusive card back, and a random Rise of Shadows Golden Legendary card.
Rise of Shadows will release on PC, iOS and Android on Tuesday 9th April.
