Respawn has now banned 770,000 Apex Legends cheaters

Unfortunately, no matter how good a game or its community are, there will always be a minority of idiots who take great pleasure in ruining the experience for everybody else. Apex Legends is a prime example of that, as its whirlwind success has come at the cost of an influx of cheaters – this is why we can’t have nice things!

Thankfully, the legends over at Respawn are actively fighting the good fight and swinging the ban hammer around like nobodies business. Back in February, Respawn announced that they had already banned 16,000 cheaters just two weeks after release, but a new developer update on Reddit has now confirmed that a whopping 770,000 cheaters have now been banned. Not only that, but Respawn has also blocked over 300,000 dodgy account creations and banned over 4,000 spam accounts in the last three weeks alone. These stats are only for the PC version of the game, where cheaters are considerably more prevalent, and Respawn says that their actions have reduced the number of games being affected by cheaters or spammers on PC by over half in the last month.

It’s a great show of determination from Respawn in their quest to keep their player base happy and keep Apex Legends as a fun experience rather than a pure source of frustration due to cheaters. Respawn says that they have been working with EA’s Security and Fraud team, the Origin team, and developers at DICE, FIFA, and Capital Games as part of their efforts to rid Apex Legends of those pesky cheaters.

Respawn are keeping tight-lipped about exactly what they’re doing to iron out the cheaters “so as to not give a head’s up to the cheat makers”, but they did say that they’re “attacking this from every angle, from improvements to detecting cheaters, bolstering resources and tools, to improving processes and other sneaky things to combat sellers and cheaters”. Reiterating their determination on this front and also hinting at the severity of matters, Respawn continued, “We take cheating in Apex incredibly serious and have a large amount of resources tackling it from a variety of angles. It is a constant war with the cheat makers that we will continue to fight.”

I’m sure all players will appreciate Respawn’s efforts (apart from the cheaters, of course) and will be hoping that they continue to fight the good fight. And remember people, not all heroes wear capes.
