PUBG’s Erangel map is getting a visual overhaul next week

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds original map, Erangel, is getting a visual overhaul next week to coincide with the beginning of Season 4.

PUBG Corp is performing the overhaul in the hope of “bringing our most classic map in line with our more recent offerings, all without losing the magic that made it a fan favorite in the first place”. Indeed, Erangel does look a bit tired since the introductions of the games more recent maps – Miramar, Sanhok, and Vikendi. PUBG Corp has “improved the graphical quality of Erangel’s various areas across the board”, reduced brightness, grass density, and colour saturation, and completely overhauled a number of key areas, adding plenty of new buildings and terrain. Of course, the planned revamp leaked a few months back and it’s already live on the PTS, but it will hit the main PC servers next week on Wednesday 24th July.

The beginning of Season 4 will also introduce a new Survivor Pass, dubbed Survivor Pass 4: AFTERMATH. The new Survivor Pass sticks with the Erangel theme, as the skins and items that you unlock will reveal “the past and present of the islands broad history”. There will be over 100 rewards to unlock through a variety of missions, and AFTERMATH will also feature a cooperative mission system where you can complete missions and earn rewards together with a buddy.

The update will hit the live servers on PC on Wednesday 24th July, signalling the beginning of Season 4 which will run until Tuesday 15th October. PUBG Corp says that the update will hit consoles in “late Summer”, although no exact date has been mentioned.

There are also a bunch of bug fixes, gameplay tweaks, and weapon balancing changes in the update, and you can the full patch notes here.
