PlanetSide Arena to launch in January

Daybreak Games has announced the next entry in the PlanetSide series – it’s called PlanetSide Arena, it’s available in January, and its initial focus will be on battle royale. Yes, I hear you, another battle royale game. It’s no surprise seeing as they’re all the rage at the minute, but also because Daybreak Games has prior experience, given that they developed H1Z1: Battle Royale.

PlanetSide Arena’s battle royale mode will feature modes for either solo players or teams of three in matches of up to 100 players, and there will also be a mode called Massive Clash which will see two teams of 250 players each (500 total – quick maths) compete in a last man standing affair. All of these modes will take place on a map that is 64 square kilometres in size. PlanetSide Arena will still be class-based, with players able to choose from Medic, Engineer, and Assault, all of which will have their own unique set of abilities. Daybreak Games was keen to ensure players that all classes will be viable selections in solo play.

Battle royale won’t be PlanetSide Arena’s sole focus, as more game modes will be added with each season, including Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch, Kill Count, Doubles, Search & Destroy, and Global Conquest. There are also going to be seasonal battle passes that will add new cosmetic items and weapons that you can purchase at terminals in-game with in-game currency that’s earned from playing.

PlanetSide Arena will launch on January 29th 2019 for PC. There are two editions of the game currently available to pre-purchase – the first is the Sanctuary Assault Edition which will cost £15.48 and comes with the Sanctuary Assault Armor Set, and the second is the Legendary Arena Edition which will set you back £31.52 but will come bundled with the Sanctuary Assault Armor Set as well as the M-20 Tempest Pack, which gives you an M-20 Tempest hoverbike as well as a banner, decal, and title.
