At the end of January, we brought you the news that Daybreak Games had officially delayed the release of PlanetSide Arena, citing the need for “crucial feature enhancements and core system improvements”.
Sadly, that wasn’t to be the only delay, with developer Daybreak Games now penciling in a summer release for it’s PC and PlayStation 4 battle royale spin-off.
This latest delay also means that Daybreak has been forced to cancel the Founders Season and is refunding gamers who placed pre-orders for PlanetSide Arena on Steam. The games summer beta is still set to go ahead, however, which should provide players an opportunity to sample an almost complete experience.
“After much consideration, we’ve decided to postpone the current PC-only release date and launch simultaneously across PC and PlayStation 4 this summer.”
“We believe that delivering the most polished version of PlanetSide Arena that meets these expectations, on both platforms, outweighs any other consideration,”
So it seems that the reason for this latest delay is down to the game needing extra polish and the decision to launch both PC and PlayStation 4 versions simultaneously. This simultaneous launch may in fact be a blessing in disguise for Daybreak. We’ve recently seen the success that a multi-format battle royale game can have with Apex Legends, although it’s hard to see another battle royale shooter breaking through and achieving the numbers that Apex Legends and Fortnite have posted.
PlanetSide Arena will launch (hopefully) on PC and PS4 this Summer.
