A new patch has gone live for Mortal Kombat 11 on the PS4, with a release for the Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC “coming soon”.
Aside from making numerous bug fixes and gameplay tweaks, the patch is largely focusing on making changes to the controversial Towers of Time mode, which many people have accused NetherRealm of designing to try and push people towards spending real money on microtransactions. That accusation is being thrown about due to the ridiculous difficulty of Towers of Time, which requires hours upon hours of grinding to unlock items that make the challenge a little bit easier, unless, of course, you reach for your wallet and spend some of your hard-earned cash.
Notably then, this patch makes a bunch of changes to the difficulty of Towers of Time, including “further opponent health reductions in higher level Towers”, “lowered modifier damage for many modifiers”, and increases to both Koin rewards at post-fight and for completing Towers, as well as increases to the amount of Hearts earned for pulling off Fatalities, Brutalities, or Mercies. Basically, you should now find Towers of Time a bit less impossible to complete, and you’ll be rewarded more handsomely with in-game currency when you do so.
To further try to repair the damage and appease players, NetherRealm is also handing out some in-game currency gifts with the update. Specifically, the update gifts players with 500,000 Koins, 1000 Souls, 1000 Time Crystals, and 500 Hearts. Players must log in to their account before 2pm BST on Monday 6th May to accept their gift, and the same gift will be dished out to players on other platforms alongside their respective updates.
On the general changes side of things, there are “tweaks to online match-making” and “AI adjustments”, as well as numerous bug fixes and gameplay tweaks. You can read the full list of changes here.
