Godfall takes the honour of being the first game to be officially announced for the PlayStation 5.
Developed by Counterplay Games and published by Gearbox Software, Godfall is a “third-person fantasy looter-slasher focused on melee combat” where players “chase legendary weapons and armor” in either single-player or co-op for up to three players. Announced at The Game Awards 2019, we also got an accompanying trailer which can be seen below, although it doesn’t include any gameplay footage:
It all sounds very Borderlands-esque but with guns traded out for swords, and I’m well on board with that! Speaking on the game, Gearbox’s President Steve Gibson said:
“We’re thrilled at Gearbox to have been chosen by Counterplay Games to bring their creative vision of Godfall to gamers on the PlayStation 5 and PC. As we continue our mission to entertain the world, Godfall is a perfect fit with Gearbox Publishing. Playing with your friends and gearing up are some of the things we love most.”
While Keith Lee, Counterplay Games’ CEO and the games Creative Director said:
“We’re innovating with Godfall to provide a fresh take on action RPGs by rewarding skill-based offensive gameplay and making every hit matter. Namely, we want to feed into that yearning for the next best piece in your character build, so we plan to provide plenty of loot to players to ensure there’s a meaningful impact to gameplay and playstyles.”
Godfall is launching for PlayStation 5 and PC via the Epic Games Store in Holiday 2020. We don’t know an exact date yet, but that release window just happens to be the same as the release window for the next generation of consoles, so I’d be surprised if Godfall wasn’t a PlayStation 5 launch title. As always, we’ll keep you updated as and when that information becomes available.
