Free Overcooked 2 Chinese New Year update – Out now

Awesome co-op cooking party game, Overcooked 2, has just received a free seasonal update, released just in time to celebrate Chinese New Year.

The update is quite a large one, which is great news for fans of the series, especially given that it’s completely free. Seven new kitchens with brand new hazards have been included, all presented on a “beautiful new world map”, with the standout hazard being a dancing Chinese dragon, circling the kitchen work space. There are two new chefs, including a Chinese New Year pig and an ornate dragon, with a Fruit Platter and Hot Pot making up the two new recipes. New gameplay mechanics have also been introduced, ensuring that this update is way more than just a Chinese New Year re-skin.

As you can see, the update makes Overcooked 2 look even crazier than ever. Be prepared to have several fallings out with your friends, especially when those dragons turn up the heat.

A new game mode has also been included in the Chinese New Year update. ‘Survival Mode’ will see players cooking against the clock to survive as long as possible. Serving up a dish will, of course, add valuable seconds to your timer, meaning teamwork will play an even more vital role in this game mode.

The ‘replay’ button has also been added to the results screen. This was a highly requested feature from the Overcooked community that now means players can hop back into the same kitchen in an attempt to beat a high score, or just to play the stage again.

Finally, you can expect to see some bug and issue fixing done to the game, just to improve your cooking experience a little further. We think it’s fantastic that Team17 continues to support Overcooked 2 so amazingly well, so hats off to them for another fantastic update. If you haven’t played Overcooked for a while (or not at all), now would be the perfect time to dive into the kitchen.

The FREE Chinese New Year update is now available for Overcooked! 2 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Steam and Xbox One.
