Fortnite’s Avengers event is now live

Fortnite’s crossover event with Avengers: Endgame is now available on all platforms.

The event—which was teased earlier this week—adds a new limited time mode, which is rather appropriately called Endgame. Players will be split into two teams, one team playing as Thanos and his Chitauri army as they search for the six Infinity Stones, while the other team must try and stop them. Sound familiar? All players who are part of Team Thanos will spawn in as Chitauri Invaders, starting with a powerful laser rifle, an anti-structure grenade, and a jetpack for extra mobility. The first player on this team to grab an Infinity Stone will turn into Thanos, gaining a “powerful punch, a destructive beam attack, and the ability to jump high into the air and then smash anything in his way as he comes back down”.

Each time an additional Infinity Stone is collected, Thanos will become stronger through buffs such as increased health and damage, and his Chitauri army will gain health too. Once/if Team Thanos manages to collect all six Infinity Stones, the Hero team will no longer be able to respawn, and Team Thanos must then eliminate the last remaining players to claim victory. If Thanos is killed, another player will become him after a short period of time, unless he was the last player alive.

The goal for the Hero side, meanwhile, is simply to stop Thanos and his army. Heroes will start with a treasure map that directs them to an Avengers item, and more items can be found in chests across the map. These items include the likes of Thor’s Stormbreaker axe, Captain America’s shield, and Iron Man’s Repulsors.

This limited time mode seems much bigger and more inclusive than the one that coincided with the release of Avengers: Infinity War, where a radically overpowered Thanos was introduced to the game. This event seems much more balanced and should be great fun for players who are well and truly in the Avengers spirit following the cinematic release of Avengers: Endgame.

The update also makes a number of bug fixes and performance improvements, and you can read the full v8.50 patch notes here.
