If you weren’t already excited enough for WWE Summerslam this weekend—where Daniel Bryan will face off against long-time rival The Miz—then I have some more wrestling-related news for you to get excited about; Showcase Mode is returning to WWE 2K19 this year (for the first time since 2K16) and it will allow you to play through the story of the world’s favourite underdog.
Players will be able to play through 11 historical Daniel Bryan matches plus one “surprise” match; yes, your maths is correct, that means 12 matches. Throughout Showcase Mode, players will journey through Daniel Bryan’s WWE career – from his debut as a “rookie” on NXT (he was far from a rookie, having been a massive name on the independent circuit for many years), to his teaming up with Kane to form Team Hell No, all the way through to his meteoric rise to superstardom with the “YES!” movement that forced WWE into changing their Wrestlemania plans to put Daniel Bryan in the main event and have him win the World Heavyweight Championship.
After this, players will also experience Daniel Bryan’s emotional premature retirement in due to injury in February 2016, leading to two years as general manager of Smackdown Live before he was medically cleared to return to in-ring action in March of this year having persistently sought second opinions and medical re-evaluations.
As if all of this wasn’t enough, the mode will be narrated by Daniel Bryan himself, meaning you will experience his journey and hear about it in his own words; the mode is rumoured to be akin to the excellent self-produced WWE documentaries that are available on the WWE Network.
WWE 2K19 will release on Xbox One, PS4 and PC on October 9th.
