Celeste’s DLC won’t arrive this month

Celeste’s upcoming free DLC is “on the home stretch”, but it won’t arrive this month, it has been announced.

That announcement comes by way of a tweet from the official Celeste account, which confirmed that while the DLC—which is titled Chapter 9: Farewell—won’t arrive in April, it “won’t be much longer”. The tweet also noted that the physical version of the game is also being held off until after Farewell has released.

Chapter 9: Farewell was first confirmed back in December as a thank you to fans following the game reaching the 500,000 copies sold mark. Since then details have been sparse, but the aptly-named developer Matt Makes Games (because his name is Matt, and he makes games) has confirmed that it will be one continuous chapter with no B-Side, there are new items/mechanics, there will be no strawberries (aww!), and that it will be after the current hardest levels in difficulty – like it wasn’t already hard enough!

Celeste was met with absolute rave reviews when it was released in January 2018 and was widely considered as one of the best games of the year. I have to admit that I missed the boat when the game released but played through it when it was released for free (because I’m a freeloading cheapskate) as part of January’s Games with Gold offerings. I was instantly addicted to it and couldn’t stop playing, despite its at-times ridiculous difficulty that left me wanting to punch a hole in the wall. I didn’t do that, but I did get in trouble for swearing loudly a few times. I can’t wait to check out the DLC, but I have to admit that I’m a bit gutted that I won’t be able to collect strawberries – I think it’s the Stardew Valley fan in me.
