Halo: The Master Chief Collection is coming to PC later this year, 343 Industries has confirmed.
343 announced the news during Tuesday’s episode of Inside Xbox, during which they also announced that Halo: Reach would be joining the collection later this year. Reach will also be available in the PC release, meaning that PC players will finally be able to play the majority of the Halo saga on their rig.
The Master Chief Collection’s PC release won’t be released as one full package though, as each game is going to release individually at staggered release dates, meaning you’ll be able to buy each game on their own as and when they release, or you can wait and buy the full set once they’re all out. Halo: Reach is going to release first, which may seem odd considering it was the fifth game to release in the series (excluding Halo Wars), but as it’s a prequel to the original Halo: Combat Evolved it means you’ll be playing through events in chronological order. Logically then, Halo: Combat Evolved will release next, followed by Halo 2, then Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and finally Halo 4. Once they’re all out, that will leave Halo 5: Guardians as the only game in the series that isn’t playable on PC.
Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 have both already been playable on PC having released in 2003 and 2007 respectively, two and three years after the release of their Xbox counterparts. PC players who don’t also own an Xbox are sure to be hungry to check out the rest of the series, so this news will leave them foaming at the mouth. The PC release of The Master Chief Collection is being worked on by studios Splash Damage and Ruffian, in conjunction with 343 Industries, as they try to create a “first class” experience.
There’s no news on when the first part of The Master Chief Collection will release on PC, but I would expect it to land in tandem with the addition of Halo: Reach to MCC on the Xbox One. We’ll keep you updated.
