The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is being revamped for the Nintendo Switch.
That news closed out tonight’s Nintendo Direct presentation, with Ninty obviously keen to finish the show with a bit of a bang. The reveal showed that the Game Boy classic’s debut on the Switch won’t just be a copy and paste job, as it features fully reimagined 3D graphics and a gorgeous art style. The game will, however, still stay faithful to the originals top-down or side-scrolling roots. Check out the trailer below.
The original The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening released on the Game Boy all the way back in 1993. In Link’s Awakening, a storm destroys Link’s boat and washes him ashore Koholint Island where the game takes place. Link’s Awakening is notable as being one of the few Legend of Zelda games to be set outside of Hyrule, and there’s a notable absence of Zelda herself, Ganon, or the Master Sword. There will be some familiar faces though, as several characters from the Mario universe make cameos in the game, such as Goombas and Chain Chomp, who you may have noticed in the trailer.
The gorgeous-looking remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening will release on the Nintendo Switch at some point in 2019.
