NetherRealm studios has released a load of new details about their upcoming fighting game, Mortal Kombat 11, at a reveal event for the game.
To kick things off, fans got a peak at the game with a brand new gameplay trailer that shows that the game will be as brutal as ever. The trailer showed us numerous members of the roster for the upcoming game, with series mainstays Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, and Raiden all present, and Mortal Kombat II’s Baraka also makes an appearance and takes a big tasty bite out of Scorpion’s arm, lovely. You can check out the trailer below, but be warned, it’s not for the feint of heart – there are chests being crushed, faces ripped off and eyeballs popped out.
Also revealed at the event was the news that Sonya Blade will be voiced by none other than the baddest woman on the planet, namely former UFC Champion and current WWE Womens Champion, Ronda Rousey. Rousey talked about how excited she is to be voicing one of the longest-running characters in the Mortal Kombat universe and she also revealed that she has been a a fan of Mortal Kombat for as long as she can remember, but she’s bound to say that, isn’t she? We also got a more in-depth look at some of Sonya’s moves in yet another brutal video which you can watch below:
If you’re not all gore’d out by now then there was also a Fatalities trailer for you to check out, featuring all kinds of beheadings, impalings, and people being ripped in half. Ouch.
For those of us who are more interested in story than gore (yes, there is a story in Mortal Kombat, it’s not just mindless violence) then you can check out the Official Story Prologue Trailer below. The plot synopsis reads:
“Raiden has upset the balance of history with the death of Shinnok. Tired of Earthrealm’s defiance, Kronika, The Keeper of Time will bring order to the universe through any means necessary.”
Mortal Kombat 11 will launch on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on April 23rd 2019.
