Hearthstone’s former game director Ben Brode and his newly founded games studio Second Dinner are working on a new Marvel game.
The announcement came with news of a $30m investment from Chinese company NetEase to develop a new Marvel project. If that name rings a bell, it’s likely because NetEase are the same publisher behind a $100m deal with Bungie to build a new game. Second Dinner’s website has some excitable text to celebrate the news:
“We’re partnering with Marvel on our first game. I know what you’re thinking: “WHAAAT?!!? You get to make a game with Hellcow the vampiric cow and Throg, the Mighty Frog of Thunder?? Yes. Yes we do. Also Spider-Man and the Avengers and the X-Men. We’re working on the prototype already and we think it might just be the most fun thing ever in the history of fun.
Stay tuned for more news on our various doings and shenanigans. Not like right away, but there will be more at some point. We promise!”
As well as Ben Brode, Second Dinner has a very well known founding team, especially if you’re a fan of Hearthstone. The studio currently consists of “5 folks” including Hamilton Chu, who was an executive producer on Hearthstone, as well as Yong Woo, who spent 9 years at Blizzard, including time working on Hearthtsone with Brode and Chu as Production Director.
No further information has been provided on the game itself, other than Second Dinner CEO Hamilton Chu playfully boasting that:
“In all likelihood, this will be the best game ever made”.
