Traditionally a single player game, Capcom’s Devil May Cry series has pretty much stuck to its formula over the years. This looks like it’s about to change, however, with new information indicating that Devil May Cry 5 has online multiplayer.
Spotted on the PlayStation Store by devilmaycry.org, was a listing for the game that mentions online multiplayer and co-op. A listing on Steam also claims multiplayer support. Although not officially confirmed by Capcom, history has taught us that these store listings are normally worth paying attention to.
Further hints were given earlier in the week when Eurogamer quizzed Devil May Cry 5 director Hideaki Itsuno about the possibility of online multiplayer. Itsuno neither confirmed nor denied online multiplayer, but spoke about how single-player is the main focus and to wait and see regarding multiplayer.
These hints and reveals have all but confirmed to us that multiplayer is coming, but in what form? The prospect of teaming up with two friends to unleash hell in combat with three-way combos is definitely exciting, with another completely separate dedicated multiplayer mode also being a very distinct possibility. We shall have to wait and see exactly how Capcom implements multiplayer, let’s just hope they don’t mess it up.
Now that news is starting to circulate regarding online multiplayer, it will be interesting to see if we get a reveal from Capcom a lot sooner rather than later.
Devil May Cry 5 releases March 8th 2019, for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
