Nintendo has published a video to their YouTube account which gives us an extended look at the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake, and it gives us our first real look at one of the games most exciting features – the dungeon editor. You can check out the video below, and skip to the seven minute mark for the section dedicated to the dungeon editor.
As you can see, the dungeon editor allows you to take rooms from various dungeons that you’ve previously completed and piece them together into a shape of your choosing. The game will also challenge you to create dungeons with a specific set of requirements, and doing so and then completing the dungeon will unlock more rooms for you to use in future creations.
In the video you’ll see a delightfully charming man called Filippo creating a dungeon at lightning pace (I’m pretty sure he’s done it a few times before) before his colleague and obvious Zelda superfan, Chris, completes it. While they run through the dungeon they give us a few pieces of interesting information, such as the fact that the Boss Key will also spawn in the last chest opened, and you can pick any boss from earlier dungeons as the final adversary for your own. They also reveal that specific items, such as the Power Bracelet or the Pegasus Boots, will be equipped at all times in the remake, which will save a massive amount of time menu-hopping as you swap items in and out. It’s 2019 and we don’t need to put up with annoying stuff like that any more, dammit!
The remake looks fantastically crafted and endlessly charming, and I for one cannot wait to get my hands on it on Friday 20th September.
