Google has used their Google Stadia Connect livestream to announce that CD Projekt Red’s highly-anticipated sci-fi RPG, Cyberpunk 2077, will be coming to Google Stadia, the company’s upcoming game streaming service.
No date was given for when exactly the game will be coming to the streaming service, so we’ll have to wait and see if it’s coming to the platform on the games official release date of Thursday 16th April 2020 or whether it’ll be coming at a later date. Alongside Cyberpunk 2077, there are also a whole host of other titles that have been announced for the service during both the livestream and at Gamescom, including Watch Dogs: Legion, Mortal Kombat 11, Gods and Monsters, Borderlands 3, Grid, Elder Scrolls Online, Destroy All Humans, Windjammers 2, Superhot, Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle, Kine, and the “Stadia exclusive” Orcs Must Die 3.
The most important thing for any new platform is games, so its important for Google to keep announcing a healthy raft of games that will be coming to their streaming platform. Of course, the main thing that critics will point out is that all of these titles are already available on other platforms, and while Google may be flaunting an impressive piece of new technology with Stadia, they certainly don’t have anywhere near enough exclusive titles to really convince anybody who already owns a console to make the jump; only Orcs Must Die 3 and Gylt have been announced as Stadia exclusives up to now.
Google Stadia is slated to launch at some point in November in 14 countries (US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland) but you’ll have to purchase the Founder’s Edition if you want to get your hands on it at launch. That will set you back £119, and it comes with a Chromecast Ultra (which you’ll need to play in 4k), three free months of Stadia Pro (which will usually cost £8.99 a month) and the ability to give a friend the same voucher, and a controller. A Stadia Pro subscription also provides 5.1 surround sound, regular free games, and exclusive discounts on game purchases. A free Google Stadia subscription is coming next year, but you’ll be capped at 1080p with stereo sound and you won’t receive any free games.
