We continue E3 2019 with announcements from Ubisoft. On the whole Ubisoft’s conference has been the most underwhelming for me, although the new Watch Dogs looks pretty good and the new Rainbow Six looks interesting, as does Gods & Monsters. Take a look at what they announced below and let me know in the comments if you agree.
Watch Dogs Legion
The newest entry into the Watch Dogs franchise was announced and it’s called ‘Watch Dogs: Legion’. The game is set in London so it features a lot of cockney accents and the terms ‘mate’ and ‘bloody’ are used to excess. As well as being set in London, Legion will also be moving away from the sole agent and will instead give you the opportunity to build your own Dedsec crew, allowing you to take control of multiple agents all with different strengths and weaknesses. Rainbow Six Siege Phantom Sight
The 13th season of Rainbow Six Siege is set to launch tomorrow and this update is called Phantom Sight, which introduces new characters and more. The highlight of the update is, of course, the new characters; Nøkk is a new attacking character that has drones, bulletproof cameras, presence reduction, and more, which allow her to be one of the stealthiest characters in the game. The second new character is Warden who is a defender character who can make use of glasses that prevent flash effects, cleanse an existing flash blindness and will grant visibility in smoke. Adventure Time Joining Brawlhalla
The 2D fighting game by Ubisoft and Blue Mammoth Games is getting some new additions to its roster, including Finn, Jake, and Princess Bubblegum from Adventure Time. As well as the new characters, a new game mode is also being added called ‘Buddy’ which looks like a team based game mode, and there’s a new map called Tree Fort. Ghost Recon Breakpoint
We didn’t learn too much about the game but we did see a new trailer (see below). We were also graced with the presence of Jon Bernthal during the conference, who shared a few minor details about the game. AI teammates have been confirmed as well as a Terminator crossover:
Just Dance coming in November 2019
There’s not really much to say here. A few dancers came out on stage and we were told Just Dance will be arriving in November, but that’s about it – we didn’t see any gameplay or anything but does anything really change other than the songs? One thing that was surprising was that at the end of the segment a list of the consoles it’s releasing on was shown and lo and behold, the Wii was there. Yes, Just Dance is coming to the Switch even though Nintendo has released two consoles since the Wii. That’s one reason why I love Ubisoft. Rainbow Six Quarantine
There’s a new Rainbow Six on the way and it’s called Quarantine. It’s been 4 years in the making and is going to be a co-op PvE-focused tactical shooter (basically a PvE Siege spin-off). Other than that not too much else was said about it, but there was a short trailer which you can watch below:
Division 2 Updates
Ubisoft revealed some of the content that we can expect to see in the upcoming post launch updates, with the first update coming in July, featuring three new missions that will take you to new areas including woodland, a zoo, and a college. The second update will launch in Fall and will include a new mission that takes you to the Pentagon and, more importantly, it will also include the second raid. The third update, which completes the year one roadmap, will launch early in 2020 – we don’t know too much about this update other than there will be a “manhunt for a dangerous figure”:
As well as the year one updates, Ubisoft also announced that the game will be free to play from June 13th until June 16th, which will give anyone who hasn’t played the game yet a chance to get hooked. And finally, they also announced that they have partnered with Netflix to bring a Division movie to reality. More details on the movie are promised to follow soon.
UPLAY+ Subscription
Ubisoft announced a new Xbox Game Pass-like subscription service that’s coming to PC. The new subscription will allow you to play over 100 Ubisoft games including all of the DLC available for these games, but it will cost $15 per month. They also said that the UPLAY+ subscription will be on Google’s Stadia platform when it launches.
Roller Champions
A new sports game from Ubisoft was announced during their E3 conference. The game looks interesting and Ubisoft describe it as a “free-to-play, skill-based, team PvP sports game – the next must-play competitive online experience.”. The game isn’t set to launch until next year but you can play a demo of the Alpha right now by downloading it via UPLAY. Gods & Monsters
Ubisoft ended their E3 conference by showing off their upcoming ‘Breath of the Wild’-looking game Gods & Monsters. The trailer didn’t reveal too much about the game but it looks interesting and it definitely looks like the graphics at least have taken some inspiration from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (and hopefully they’ve taken inspiration from the gameplay too). The game is set to release on February 25th 2020 which, considering this is the first trailer we’ve seen for the game and we haven’t really heard anything about it before, is pretty soon. We expect to see a lot more of this game in the coming months in the run up to its release:
So, that’s all Ubisoft had to offer at this years E3. What did you think? As I said previously, I wasn’t overly impressed but there were a few gems mixed between the games I couldn’t give 2 cents about.
