Chivalry 2 is in development and will release at some point in 2020, Torn Banner Studios and Tripwire Interactive have announced.
The game is quite obviously the sequel to the 2012 multiplayer first-person slasher Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, which gave players the opportunity to experience being involved in medieval battles. The sequel will expand on the original in a number of ways; the player count is being doubled from 32 to 64, and a revamped combat system will apparently “re-establish the Chivalry franchise as the best melee combat system ever made”. Bold statement.
There’s also an expanded sandbox that will allow you to interact with a massive amount of items across the map. Torn Banner Studios is promising that you can catapult a corpse across the battlefield, and setting a chicken on fire and throwing it at people is apparently a viable option for combat too – activists might have something to say about that. Mounted combat is also being introduced, with horses offering you better options for map traversal and drive-bys.
Not only that, but you can also keep fighting with missing limbs, even if you’re “downed and gasping your last breath”. Missing limbs is definitely something you can expect to see in Chivalry 2 if the announcement trailer (which you can watch below) is anything to go by:
Incidentally, if this news has made you want to check out the original Chivalry then you can currently pick it up for just £3.79 on Steam until Monday 17th June.
Chivalry 2 will launch for PC in 2020 as a timed-exclusive on the Epic Game Store. That exclusivity will last for 12 months. If you want to know more about the game then you can check out this FAQ.
