Today, Microsoft announced during their latest Inside Xbox reveal that they’d be bringing another six titles to the ever-growing list of Backwards Compatible games.
Specifically, Fable II, Fable III, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, and Ninja Gaiden 2 are the six games in question, and what fantastic games they are.
Fable II released all the way back in 2008, with the third game in the series releasing 2 years later. Both titles received a mostly positive reception at launch, with Fable II being the standout title of the two.
We haven’t heard a sound from Sam Fisher and the Splinter Cell franchise for over six years now—except for the Wildlands cameo—so it will come as welcome news to fans of the series to have three titles getting the enhanced treatment. Blacklist was the last Splinter Cell game to be released in 2013, and although we’ve heard rumours that a new Splinter Cell game is currently in development, nothings been confirmed as of yet.
Ninja Gaiden 2 originally released in 2008 and featured a new combat system for the series. The sequel contains more violence and gore than the 2004 original and received positive reviews, even though many thought the game lacked true innovation from the first entry in the rebooted series.
All of these titles will be enhanced for the Xbox One X, meaning nine times the pixel count of their original Xbox 360 versions. As always, these games can be played physically or digitally through the Microsoft Store. I’ll be digging out my copies of Fable II and Ninja Gaiden from the loft in the coming days, and it will be interesting to see how the games look with their enhanced resolution on the One X.
