Respawn has confirmed that their upcoming Star Wars game, Jedi: Fallen Order, will be single-player only and will feature NO microtransations, and yes this includes loot boxes. Speaking at the Star Wars Celebration event in Chicago, Zach Zampella said “It’s a single-player story game”, “No multiplayer,” and he finished off by saying “No microtransactions. It’s a story game.”. You can watch the event live stream and listen to the crowd cheer below:
This was met with plenty of cheers from the audience (see above) especially when the “no microtransactions” comment dropped. Who would have thought that EA would be behind a single-player only game after they said that single-player games are dead? It’s even more surprising that EA are involved in a game that will have no microtransactions.
For those of you who are still dubious, EA has officially confirmed the news themselves via Twitter, and they even confirmed that they won’t be adding them in the future:

We’re as shocked as you are that all of this is coming out of EA’s mouth. Maybe it’s an apology for the disastrous Battlefront 2 launch which saw them introduce pay-to-win mechanics, or maybe it’s them saying sorry for the way Anthem turned out, or maybe Respawn have pulled a few strings seeing as they will undoubtedly have more sway in the board room now thanks to the success of Apex Legends. Whatever the reason, we like this EA and we hope future games follow suit, although that’s probably unlikely.
Another surprising fact which has surfaced is that Jedi: Fallen Order will not be built in the usual Frostbite engine that other EA studios use. Instead, Respawn are building the game in Unreal Engine 4, much to the delight of Epic no doubt, as the game is sure to fly off the shelves.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is set to release this Christmas with no microtransactions (just in case you couldn’t believe it the first five times I said it).
