Wolfenstein: Youngblood will release at the end of July

Wolfenstein: Youngblood will release on Friday 26th July for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC, Bethesda has announced.

To celebrate that news, Bethesda also released a new badass gameplay trailer for the game, which has got me right in the mood to mow down some Nazi scum. Check it out below:

Wolfenstein: Youngblood is a co-op shooter that follows the story of Jess and Soph Blazkowicz, twin daughters of the Wolfenstein series usual protagonist William B.J. Blazkowicz, who head to Paris on a desperate search to find their father. Bethesda says there will be new RPG elements in the game, allowing players to level up and unlock new abilities, weapon attachments, gadgets, cosmetics and more. Numerous “improved” versions of weapons from the previous game, Wolfenstein: The New Colossus, will also be available for use.

The game can be played solo with an AI companion, but it will definitely be best played with a buddy in co-op, which looks like it will be a great laugh and is definitely how the game has been designed to play. With that in mind, anybody who buys the Deluxe Edition (which is priced at $39.99) will get the Buddy Pass, allowing you to invite a friend to play the game with you even if they don’t own it, letting them download the game for free and play alongside you. The Buddy Pass can only be provided to one friend at a time, but it can be reused as many times as you want, effectively letting you play through the game with all of your friends without them all having to buy it. It’s a great idea from Bethesda, as co-op games often fall on their face if players don’t have any buddies to play with, so making it more accessible for friends is sure to be a winner. I’m sure you’ve already worked this out for yourself, but if you and a friend are intending on playing the game then go halves on the Deluxe Edition and use the Buddy Pass. The Buddy Pass isn’t the only thing on offer in the Deluxe Edition either – you’ll also get a Cyborg Skin Pack.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood is being developed a bit differently from previous games in the rebooted series, as MachineGames aren’t developing it alone – France-based studio Arkane Studios are helping them to develop the game, a partnership which Jerk Gustafsson (what an unfortunate first name), Game Director at MachineGames, says has “not only resulted in a truly great and completely new Wolfenstein experience, but it has also brought our two studios closer together in a friendship that will be of tremendous value in our continuous efforts to craft beautiful, original and fun video games”. Awww, friends!

Wolfenstein: Youngblood will launch on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on Friday 26th July.
