Sega’s attempt to cash in on the mini console craze is drawing near, with the Mega Drive Mini due to launch this September. As with Nintendo’s retro mini machines, Sega’s version will launch with a full catalogue of classic titles from the Mega Drive’s history.
Today, Sega has announced 10 more games that will be included in Septembers release. Joining the 20 classic titles already announced will be :
- Mega Man: The Willy Wars (stop laughing)
- Street Fighter 2: Special Champion Edition
- Sonic Spinball
- Phantasy Star 4
- Beyond Oasis
- Ghouls ‘N Ghosts
- Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle
- Golden Axe
- Vectorman
- Wonder Boy in Monster World
It’s great to see Golden Axe added to the list of titles; we were a little worried that Sega might fail to include one of our favourite Mega Drive titles after it was excluded from the previous announcement, which saw other Mega Drive big hitters such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Ecco the Dolphin and Streets of Rage 2 all unveiled.
So far, 30 of 40 games have been announced by Sega. We expect the final 10 games will to be revealed sometime during the summer. The 20 games previously announced are listed below for your viewing pleasure:
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Sonic the Hedgehog 2
- Dr Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
- Ecco the Dolphin
- Space Harrier 2
- Streets of Rage 2
- Shining Force
- Castlevania: Bloodlines
- ToeJam & Earl
- Comix Zone
- Gunstar Heroes
- Altered Beast
- Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
- World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck
- Super Fantasy Zone
- Shinobi III
- Earthworm Jim
- Thunder Force III
- Contra: Hard Corps
- Landstalker
If any of these titles interest you, or if like me you want a new addition to your mini console collection, then look out for Sega’s Mega Drive Mini when it arrives on Thursday 19th September at a cost of £70/$80.
