Johnny Cage is the latest character to be revealed for the upcoming Mortal Kombat 11, which should come as no surprise considering he’s been an absolute series staple ever since his appearance as one of the original characters of the first Mortal Kombat in 1992.
Johnny’s reveal comes by the way of a hilarious reveal trailer which has been obtained by IGN. Check it out below:
Fans of the series will know that Cage is a cocky Hollywood movie star inspired by the likes of Jean-Claude Van Damme, and his moveset in Mortal Kombat 11 will play up to that. In the trailer, we see what I’m presuming is a stunt double holding someone from behind to give Cage a free shot at his opponents nads, and we also see a clip of Cage stunning Scorpion with the flash of a camera before chainsawing him and then throwing his shades at him from range. If all of that isn’t Hollywood enough, he even manages to stab his opponent in the chest with his “Excellence Award” for Best Actor.
His fatality, meanwhile, may well be the most glorious one yet. Johnny has to perform multiple takes of uppercutting his opponents head clean off, which I’m sure is a nod to both the glitch in the original Mortal Kombat where you could do his uppercut fatality twice and knock two heads flying, and the secret fatality in Mortal Kombat 2 where you could do it three times. On his second failed attempt Johnny asks “who hired this guy? What the f**k”, which I’m also sure is a reference to his line in the Mortal Kombat movie where he asks “Where do you get these guys?” when a stunt man forgets to fall down. On his third attempt, Cage knocks the head off but gets it stuck on his fist, so he throws it directly at the camera and gives us all the finger in the process.
Even if you’re not interested in the game, you should still watch all of these reveal trailers. They’re bloody brilliant.
Mortal Kombat 11 launches for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on Tuesday 23rd April. The Nintendo Switch version will launch a couple of weeks later on Friday 10th May.
