Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s fantastic take on the battle royale genre, Blackout, is getting a seven day free trial on all platforms.
That means that from Thursday 17th January to Thursday 24th January, players on PS4, Xbox One, and PC will be able to play Blackout without restriction, without having to own the game. The news was announced a short while ago over on the Black Ops 4 Twitter account:

Blackout sees players do battle in last man standing fashion on a massive map that features numerous iconic maps from the Black Ops franchise. It’s a fast, fun, polished take on the battle royale genre that excels thanks to the smooth and satisfying gun play that Call of Duty is famous for. Blackout has been a massive success for Treyarch – if you haven’t played it yet but were interested in trying it out but didn’t want to fork out the full price of the game to do so then this is the perfect opportunity. You won’t regret it. To whet your appetite, check out the trailer for the free trial below:
We’re massive fans of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 here at Buff Nerf Repeat, with a particular fondness for Blackout. Speaking about Blackout in my Black Ops 4 review I said:
“Blackout is a roaring success. Although essentially a copy, it’s a completely new but instantly familiar way to play Call of Duty and I couldn’t imagine the game without it. The inclusion of zombies and iconic maps is a stroke of genius that makes Blackout feel like a celebration of the franchise rather than just an act of jumping on the bandwagon, and coupling this with the instantly accessible and satisfying gameplay of Call of Duty results in the most enjoyable battle royale experience to date.”
The Blackout free trial runs from Thursday 17th January to Thursday 24th January on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and will presumably be accessible through a download on each platforms store. If you haven’t checked out Blackout yet then I strongly suggest you give it a go.
