World of Warcraft’s, Shadowlands, has been announced during the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2019.
To announce the expansion, Blizzard treated us to a suitably gorgeous cinematic which shows us a dramatic confrontation between Sylvanas Windrunner and Bolvar Fordragon, who’s known as the Lich King these days. By the end of the trailer, Sylvanas destroys the Lich King’s helmet and opens a rift between the world of the living and the Shadowlands, which is effectively the afterlife for characters in the Warcraft universe.
The Shadowlands expansion will introduce a new continent to the game, which will include the zones Revendreth, Ardenweald, Maldraxxus, and Bastion. The expansion has been “built around choice” according to Blizzard, and players will have to choose a Covenant to join within the Shadowlands. There will also be new dungeons and raids, including the ‘Tower of the Damned’. You can check it all out in the trailer below:
Describing the expansion, Blizzard said:
“The veil between life and death is no more. Discover what lies beyond the world you know in the next chapter of the World of Warcraft saga–Shadowlands: Coming 2020. In it, you will be able to explore the realm of the dead, pledge yourself to a covenant and shape your destiny, take on the boundless challenge of Torghast, Tower of the Damned, and journey through a new leveling experience.”
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands will launch in 2020, but no exact release date was given. As always, we’ll keep you updated as and when that information becomes available.
