NetherRealm has announced a bunch of new downloadable characters for Mortal Kombat 11, and shown off some gameplay of Shang Tsung.
The new trailer, which you can see below, mainly focuses on the return of veteran villain Shang Tsung, who will be made available to owners of the games Kombat Pack on Tuesday 18th June. The demonic shapeshifter will be voiced by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, who portrayed Shang Tsung in the Mortal Kombat movie back in 1995, and the new gameplay trailer makes a little nod to the movie too.
In terms of gameplay, Shang Tsung looks pretty cool, and the clip shows him well and truly destroying the likes of Raiden, Kung Lao, and Liu Kang. His shapeshifting ability is definitely the order of the day, as he transforms into the likes of Raiden, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and Noob Saibot at various times throughout. As for his fatality, the one shown sees Shang Tsung summoning Kintaro (who first appeared in Mortal Kombat 2), who bursts out from within Shang Tsung’s opponent – after ripping their arms off, of course.
The last 30 seconds or so of the trailer also confirmed a number of other characters that will be added to the game over time as part of Kombat Pack 1. Namely, they are Sindel and Nightwolf, who both debuted in Mortal Kombat 3, and legendary comic book character Spawn. The trailer also teases “two more guests”, but fans have already spotted both a chainsaw sound effect and what appears to be the famous Terminator drum beat, leading players to believe that Ash from the Evil Dead and Arnie’s Terminator will round out the Kombat Pack.
